Resumen:
Juliana Stropp will provide an overview of the challenges and opportunities of using digital data from natural history collections in biogeography. The talk will address the questions 1) How well are entire biomes represented in natural history collections? 2) How does uneven sampling affect our knowledge of biodiversity? 3) How much of the knowledge stored in natural history collections may be out-dated or lost due to land-use change and taxonomic reclassification? The talk will present methods and approaches to scrutinize the data in natural history collections and discuss how they can be used to advance biogeography.
Juliana Stropp is a post-doctoral researcher at Federal University of Alagoas (Brazil). Her research focus on macroecology of tropical rainforests in Africa and Amazonia.
